Saturday, April 13, 2019 I attended the 2019 DC Emancipation Day parade, concert and fireworks to commemorate the DC Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 which ended slavery in Washington, D.C. There was a star-studded line-up of local acts and celebrity performers, Master Gee, Doug E. Fresh, Kenny Lattimore, Mya and Faith Evans!

Washington D.C. still has a lot of love for former First Lady, Cora Master Berry, once married to the notable former mayor, Marion Berry.

The human beat-box and leading hype man, Doug E. Fresh was on set to enthrall the crowd in old-school Hip-Hop jams
Singer, songwriter, producer, and actress Mya came back to her hometown of Washington D.C. to perform for Emancipation Day. With over 20 years of industry experience and now operating as an independent artist, Mya shared some nuggets of wisdom for entrepreneurs.
Faith Evans closed out the concert and sis sang. No doubt it was a family affair as Bad Boy's Lil Cease and husband Stevie J also made appearances. Backstage, I was able to hear from Faith about the power of #BlackLove between her and her new hubby has impacted her life and her career.
The freedom enslaved black and brown people obtained in the District of Columbia and around the world is worthy of celebration. The City came out on a gorgeous day to commemorate the occasion and a great time was had by all. The weather was perfect; the food vendors left that backyard BBQ smell in the air, and local acts were just as great as the celebrity performances. The event was well organized and lasted well into the night, ending with an amazing fireworks display.
